No Cinco de Moe's
Sorry for the misleading information on here. There are no $3 burritos at Moe's today.
Cinco de Moe's = Cinco de Shmoe's :-(
So glad our plans changed today. Originally we planned on going to Moe's for dinner for $3 burritos. However, soccer pictures turned out to be today and I guess there is going to be a chicken BBQ there, so we did Moe's for lunch.
They have a big sign that says "Cinco de Moe's" in the window. I looked up Cinco de Moe's on google a few days ago and it said $3 burritos. Apparently that is only at participating Moe's and ours is not one of them. They have no Cinco de Moe's specials. I even mentioned I saw the advertisement for three dollar burritos but they said they were doing nothing. Oh well, we shared a Moo Moo Mr. Cow kids meal, half the food we planned on getting today for $3.49 instead of $3.
So, all in all, sorry friends... no $3 burritos for any of us today.

Cinco de Mayo
Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
You know I never even heard of Cinco de Mayo until about ten years ago when I was a flight attendant. I grew up in a small town and I think the only one who even spoke Spanish was the Spanish teacher. So, after going to the grocery store this morning and purchasing guacamole, blue corn chips, and virgin margarita ingredients for later; I decided to google Cinco de Mayo and learn a bit about this 'holiday'.
Did you know Cinco de Mayo isn't really even celebrated in Mexico? It's more of an American made holiday that people often mistake for Mexico's independence day, which is in September. Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico's unlikely defeat of French troops in Puebla in 1862 (Mexican troops were highly outnumbered); however, the French later did overcome and rule Mexico until 1867. Cinco de Mayo is more a day of Americans celebrating their Mexican heritage that has become highly commercialized and an excuse for people to party by eating guacamole and drinking margaritas (sortof like St.Patrick's Day). The celebrations seem to be biggest in California and more specifically Los Angeles.
Short history lesson for myself, now I'm off to Moe's to join in Cinco de Moe's with $3 burritos!

The activities they put on for the little ones were amazing! Every child there had a smile on their face. The day started at 1:00pm, but we didn't arrive until close to 2:00pm. There was a crawl threw tunnel set up where kids found animals in the tunnel, buckets to throw basketballs into, a sandbox filled with beans that you filled a plastic easter egg up with beans to make a rattle, lift up the plastic ducks in a kiddie pool filled with water to find one with a moose on the bottom, throw a sticky ball onto the behind of an animal with a target on it, and I'm sure more that I'm forgetting. There was also a lemonade stand set up where the kids took some premade lemonade in a container, squeezed some precut lemons in it, added some scoops of sugar, and some scoops of ice, put the top on and shook it up real good to make their own lemonade. Beside the lemonade table was a table set up full of free goodies like cupcakes and cookies. Yum!
At around 2:30 they stopped the games and had everyone gather around some set up microphones for song time. There were lots of little different colored carpets laid out in a semicircle all around the microphones. There were three adults that began to sing and they were good! They sang lots of cute songs and had the kids involved with their easter egg rattles, yellow submarine signs glued to popsicle sticks that the kids found under their carpets, and some sign language songs too.
I really can't say how impressed I was by the organization and planning that went in to all of this. AMAZING!!
After the kids danced and sang their little hearts out, there was a basket raffle. The tickets, ahem I mean gold coins, were $1 for one or 6 for $5. We were feeling lucky after recently winning the grand prize basket drawing through Peaceful Valley Maple Farms, I talked the hubby into buying 6. Plus, with all of this being put on for free, I wanted to donate something. We won two baskets! The baskets were set up as a first called number got to pick whichever basket they wanted and so on. Towards the end I think people were just going up and grabbing baskets, but whatever..
Oh, and there was a free face painting booth too, everything was free.
Starting May 16th, the Imagination Garden is offering free programs to the locals!! We signed up for the evening classes offered because my youngest is too small to gain anything from the day classes and my oldest would be in school. Judging by this grand opening day though, I am sure the classes will rock!! Cannot wait!

Karen's Ice Cream & Produce
Our family made our first trip of the year to Karen's Ice Cream & Produce tonight for dinner. We went there so much last year after the birth of DD2 to get out of the house a bit. DH doesn't care for eating in the car much, DD1 loves it (especially when DH isn't in the car with us so she can sit up front), I don't mind it. I actually kind of like it, it's a nice change and DD1 likes it so much. It's nice to be so close together and have it just be us...
You can eat inside too. The lady there told us there was a small heater inside and the doors were shut to the barn, we didn't check. For some reason, we normally just eat in the car. With DD2 almost walking and my lack of knowledge on whether or not they have high chairs (although DD2 has decided to stand up while strapped into the highchairs or lean over to such an extent it looks as though she is going to drop out and over onto her head. High chairs contain her for about five minutes now) I foresee us eating in the car for much of this season. She played up front with the dash and on the area of the floor by my feet in the passenger side and picked at some food.
Anyway, about Karen's! Food was pretty good, prices may have went up..? A cheeseburger was $4.75, a deluxe - which has lettuce and tomato was $5.25. For a cheeseburger, fries, chicken tenders, and onion rings it was about $15.00. A flurry was $3.50 (ice cream and candy mix).
Me making DH go out in the rain, wind, and cold for ice cream. Love you DH!
